NOTHING ABOUT US
WITHOUT US.

Illinois harm reduction advocates posing for a picture, all wearing gray shirts that read 'Naloxone Saves Lives'.

ILLINOIS HARM REDUCTION & RECOVERY COALITION

We envision a statewide movement that eliminates stigma towards people who use drugs and upholds every individual’s sense of dignity and well-being.

What is harm reduction ?

Harm reduction recognizes every individual's dignity and prioritizes bodily autonomy, choice, and safety.

While there is no one definition of harm reduction, its roots were born out of the movement of sex workers, LGB/TGNC+ activists, mutual aid groups, and drug users' collaboratives whose practices for decades have been criminalized. We honor the path their work has paved for us today by continuing to center equity as we work to uplift marginalized communities and services, like sexual health resources, syringe exchange programs, drug users' unions and BIPOC-led organizations.
