Naloxone Access

ILLINOIS legislation:

Heroin Crisis Act/Lali's Law - PA 099-0480 (2016)

  • Initiated pharmacist-prescribed naloxone, and required naloxone trainings for pharmacists

  • Made changes to the Drug Overdose Prevention Program (DOPP) that removed barriers to naloxone access for individuals, family members, law enforcement, firefighters, school personnel, and first responders

Naloxone Access Law - PA 096-0361 (2010)

  • Recognizes naloxone administration as a standard tool 

  • Protects laypersons and first responders who use naloxone in an emergency/overdose scenario

  • Provides immunity for healthcare professionals (including pharmacists) who prescribe/dispense naloxone and/or utilize naloxone in an emergency/overdose scenario
